My approach

Start with the thinking.
Build from there.

A correct answer is useful. Understanding how to reach it—and when to use that reasoning again—is what I want students to take away.

01

Understand the student.

A mistake is a starting point. We look at the reasoning behind it to find what needs attention.

02

Make the “why” clear.

We connect ideas and build explanations that make sense to the student, beyond memorizing steps.

03

Practice for independence.

Students try, explain, and revise their own work. The goal is to need less help over time.
